Etymology: Middle English, from Old English man

1 a : A domineering parent or guardian who’s lust for perfection hinders and compromises their child’s ability to develop a skill, learn discipline or be taught the value of hard work.
b : One who values and places their own ego and ideals before their child’s to maintain their own image.
It is believed that the original Man Scouts made their first appearance on May 15, 1953 in Manhattan Beach, California at the first Pinewood Derby. As a collection of parents and guardians stood watching their ambitious young racers compete in the unadulterated fun, it quickly became apparent them that by taking over the event, their children’s cars could be faster, better looking and that everyone would have more fun.
The ideals of these few quickly spread, and soon many parents and guardians around the world adopted the theory that “I can do it better.” This unspoken creed was visibly apparent in all endeavors undertook by the Man Scout’s offspring. All across the nation, reports of more elaborate science projects, faster Pinewood Derby cars, children being made to attend their parent’s alma matters and grade school referees fearing for their safety were surfacing.
Modern day Man Scout can now be found on all seven continents and continues to thrive by living its life at the expense of its child’s. The imperative values, disciplines and skills once taught to children through life lessons and nurturing are becoming a thing of the past. As a result the once ambitious, hard working child has become increasingly scarce and is now on the brink of extinction.
